MRP (material requirements planning) data archive and related projects, 1976-1991.

The materials document the activities undertaken as part of a social science research project, "Knowledge acquisition at work." The project investigated the implementation of a material requirements planning system, or MRP, an early computer based system of production control and inventory management. The study focused on the impact that new technologies have on workers and work, and in particular how workers learn to use new information technologies. The study also looked at the comparative roles of school-based learning and "on-the-job" learning. Included with the related projects of Patricia Sachs are files pertaining to the administration of the Laboratory for Cognitive Studies of Work at CUNY, and papers from a project on "Industry, Work and Community" in rural West Virginia.
